Day 1: Marrakech – Atlas Mountains – Ait Ben Haddou – Mhamid
We’ll kick off our adventure by picking you up early in the morning from your hotel or riad in Marrakech. Our journey begins with a scenic drive through the Atlas Mountains via the Tichka Pass, offering breathtaking views of the mountain ranges and valleys.
Our first stop is the UNESCO-listed Ait Ben Haddou, a 10th-century town renowned for its well-preserved kasbah. After exploring the fortress, we’ll continue our drive through the palm-lined Draa River valley, passing through Zagora, known as the “capital of dates,” before reaching Mhamid in the Sahara desert.
We’ll spend the night in a nomad desert camp.
Day 2: Mhamid – Sidi Naji Sanctuary
After breakfast at the camp, we’ll begin our hiking adventure from Mhamid, following in the footsteps of the Bedouins across the golden dunes of the Sahara. Accompanied by a caravan of camels carrying our belongings, we’ll trek to the Sidi Naji sanctuary.
Along the way, we’ll take a break in a palm grove shaded by tamarisk trees before reaching the sanctuary. Here, we’ll learn about the history of the marabout Sidi Naji and witness the sunset at the shrine.
We’ll camp overnight next to the dunes.
Day 3: Sidi Naji – Erg Bertham
After breakfast, we’ll resume our hiking route from the sanctuary to Erg Bertham, a journey of three to four hours. Along the way, we’ll encounter herds of camels and enjoy a delicious lunch at an oasis surrounded by tamarisk trees.
Continuing our trek, we’ll reach Erg Bertham where we’ll set up camp for the night.
Day 4: Erg Bertham – Marrakech
Our final day begins with breakfast in Erg Bertham before boarding a minibus for the return journey to Marrakech. We’ll arrive at your hotel or riad between 5 and 6 pm, concluding our unforgettable 4-day hiking adventure.
Accommodation:
The tour includes three nights of full board accommodation. The first night is at Dar M’Hamid Guest House, followed by the next two nights in a nomad camp in the desert.
